TRUST

Trust

Bring peace and justice
in equal measure.
Give hope to hearts
broken by hate and fear
so we become alike it this:
we are equal,
we are the same.
Trust sets the standard
for how we live,
giving feet to faith,
hands to helping,
bringing joy to hearts.
In all and with all
we see His promise,
taking us from fear to clarity,
from fury to assurance.
Trust opens doors to possibility.
Break the barriers between us
so we see each other
for who we are,
not the color of our skin –
equal, the same.

Easter Prayer

Stock Photography - Easter Lily Close Up

There can be no safer place to be
than in the certainty of God’s love.
Every bumpy, curvy road
can be made straight
by this assurance:
God’s love and protection
are always present.
Problems don’t disappear;
our ability to manage them
is strengthened in the light of his promise
to be with us always.

Christ lived that we might live.
Christ died that we would be saved.
Christ arose that we might have hope.

God knows our need;
God gives us tools
to be wise and courageous
in the most difficult of times.
He does not forget us
when we are less than faithful.
He waits for us to return to the rock of his refuge.

Thank you, God, for your presence.
In times of uncertainty,
relieve our anxiety,
give us strength and courage day-by-day.

– Amen

Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go. Psalm 71:3

I believe

PrayerNow faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

I believe. I believe despite anything that tries to erode my belief. Life happens, not always in the way I want it to. Humans build elaborate castles of expectation and dream impossible dreams, but in the end we do not know what will happen or how we will react. As a woman of faith, I build upon the foundation of God’s love so when things go sour – and in the world they will and do – I am grounded on the sure promise of God’s presence. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (NIV Joshua 1:9) God knows the road ahead; I do not. Whether I ride on a wave of success, or am in the throes of distress, I have the certainty of this: God is with me through everything.

In all times

pexels-photo-236164.jpegCan all your worries add a single moment to your life? Matthew 6:27 NIV

Jesus wept, but he laughed, too. He went to parties. Visited with family. Saw the humor in the mundane. Welcomed friends. Understood the value of storytelling as an art form. Engaged his audience. Jesus’ life was filled with people of all kinds. Was he a worrier? I  think not. What did he say about the birds of the air and flowers of the fields? (Matthew 2:26) Faith is a builder; worry is a destroyer. Have faith.

He is my strength

Walk in faithThe LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. Psalm 118:14

You are wandering in the desert, alone, afraid, disoriented. What do you do? Pull out your cellphone and pray you have service! Life can feel a bit like being lost in an unknown place. Panic sets in and you know you need immediate help. How and where do you get it? Personal experience has taught me to get on my “cellphone” to God through prayer. One of my go-to prayers is: “I seek the Lord and he hears me, and relieves me of all my fears.” The second is somewhat like it: “I release myself, my loved ones, my worries and my fears into the hands of God, and I trust him.” He is my strength. The song of his promise to be with me always sings through my life.

Present day by day

Peace LilyNow faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 KJV

God is present. This isn’t a maybe or a might; it is an absolute. In times of fretfulness and fear, when you think you have been forgotten, remember this: “Cast all your anxiety on God for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7). God is as concerned about life’s trials as you, more so, but God’s concern isn’t for the dilemma; God’s concern is for you. Be not afraid. Trust in the Lord. Have faith. God is present and God is with you, come what may.

Courage in the chaos

Joshua 1:9 – Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

PrayerIt is normal to slide into panic when life surprises you in negative ways, but it is not in your best interest to stay there. Panic overload leads to poor decisions, causes words to be spoken that cannot be taken back, and generally keeps a person’s life in a state of uncertainty bordering on chaos. God is present. He can find us when we can’t seem to find him. His promise is to never leave us come what may. Each day brings opportunity, and yes, challenges. The challenges that create opportunities to get closer to God – and to each other – often prove to be the events that lead to enrichment.

Trust – 9th Poem of Christmas

Life and Light

Truth, the word feared most of all,
Rhetoric and lies, cause us to fall.
Utmost and highest, we aspire to call,
Savior sweet Savior, ere death’s bitter gall!
Trust I give you, my life, my all.
