SNOW

Snow fell today,

…pristine

beautiful…

Creature tracks
break the crust.
Moisture gives us

…hope

…expectation

of a spring
blooming and lush.

Shadow Dance

Shadow Trees

Spindly and bare,
trees striped and spare,
look at them dance
and boldly prance
in shadows that flow
across fields of snow.

Spindly and bare
trees striped and spare,
Beautifully arrayed
this woody brigade,
rooted yet wild
like a sturdy child.

My New Mexico

Sun on Snow - Fall 2019

Autumn warm, the kind inside your heart
when you sit comfortably by the hearth.
A brisk and stormy day
when snow crystals come out to play.
The gentle swell of joy comes along
giving all of life a happy song.

Autumn warm, a stirring of leaves,
winter has surprises up its sleeves!
Take in those splashes of color bright,
iridescent in Autumn’s light.
The aroma of chile roasting and pumpkin pie
gives us all an Autumn high!

Snow More

Snow Down

Are you happy now?
Do you remember
when you moaned
and groaned,
whined and fretted.
Will this snow
ever go away?
you asked.
It’s too cold!
you said,
Will this ever end?!
you cried.
And now I am going.
It seems as though–
winter has died.
Once I was three,
four feet deep.
This is all that is left of me,
and now you fret
because it is still winter
yet I am dwindling,
fading,
drying up.
Are you happy now?

The Gift of Today

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens… Ecclesiastes 3:1

Bridal Wreath in WinterWhen I was a child my family lived in Hobbs, New Mexico, where it rarely snowed. Wintery weather was always a surprise. I remember coming out of church on a Sunday morning with a pristine layer of white covering everything. The overlay muffled sound and made me think the whole world had gone eerily silent and peaceful, fresh and new. Today when I got up and looked out the window, I thought about those yesteryear gifts of winter and related it to how God works in my life. He muffles the noise of discontent and negativity and makes all things new and fresh. He covers me with forgiveness, and creates in me a renewed spirit, one able to be compassionate and merciful, eager for the next amazing moment along the journey that is my life.
