YEAR AROUND

Snow Day

The winds and snow of Winter
invite us to cozy down,
take comfort from those around us
in our home and in our town.

Spring’s gay bright blossoms
give us cause to laugh and sing,
as we watch for early robins
and hear the messages they bring.

Summer opens wide its
sunny arms enticing us to play,
kick the ball and swim the lake,
and make the most of every day.

Autumn whispers a sleepy song
of falling leaves and wind all around.
It’s time to rest, they say,
let peace and gentleness abound.

Shadow Dance

Shadow Trees

Spindly and bare,
trees striped and spare,
look at them dance
and boldly prance
in shadows that flow
across fields of snow.

Spindly and bare
trees striped and spare,
Beautifully arrayed
this woody brigade,
rooted yet wild
like a sturdy child.

December Moon

December Moon

Night shades the cloud-shrouded moon,
cold white against the inky sky
framed by a lacework of leaf-striped limbs
intertwined by nature’s refining hand.

What stories does the moon observe
as it passes through the starless expanse
on its way to the other side to see
an end to one day, and the beginning of another?

Snow More

Snow Down

Are you happy now?
Do you remember
when you moaned
and groaned,
whined and fretted.
Will this snow
ever go away?
you asked.
It’s too cold!
you said,
Will this ever end?!
you cried.
And now I am going.
It seems as though–
winter has died.
Once I was three,
four feet deep.
This is all that is left of me,
and now you fret
because it is still winter
yet I am dwindling,
fading,
drying up.
Are you happy now?
